The workshop was held
at St Paul Baptist Church, 3101 The Alameda.
After the prayer said the speakers began.
The speaker Ms Tina, started with “do you have to have that
Starbucks coffee or you don’t feel right?
Do you have to have the latest purse or do you have to go to
the barber shop on a certain day, or you don’t feel right? That’s being
addicted to something.
Most people in Baltimore associate addiction with Heroin
addicts around Lexington market, and elsewhere, and you may not want to go
anywhere near them.
Opioid addiction goes across all sociable and economical
walks of life. She’s seen people with money and others that we would not think
would become addicted to opioids.
People may start out
trying to relieve extreme pain, or psychological pain. First they may take one
pill more than prescribe, then two because the feeling isn’t right, the next
step is not being able to do without it.
The Ms Tina’s co-speaker showed us how to administer the
nasal spray called NARCAN, this spray is for bringing someone back from an overdose.
We were told how to manage a person’s head and to place our
shirt tail or some other cloth over the person’s mouth.
There was a great deal of information given, to help anyone,
and their families.
